Groceries- Shaw's, just a few blocks over, but for toiletries and cleaning supplies you can find cheaper prices at CVS  (I think there's one on Mass Ave) or Target.  You can get to Target on the weekdays on the CT2 bus that picks you up  at Vassar and Mass Ave.  The bus doesn't run on weekends or holidays though. Be sure to ask the driver to stop for you at  Washington St. and McGrath Hwy since it's an optional stop.

Things to do- Go see a movie at the theater off of Boston Common.  There are restaurants and some shopping around, and in the winter you can go ice skating on the common.  The aquarium is very cool also.

Helpful information- Bringing or buying some type of collapsible cart to go grocery shopping is helpful, although the Warehouse has  one available for checkout.  The MBTA website is good at planning your trips for you to tell you which buses or T stops you  need to get from one place to another (www.mbta.com).  Go to the $2 dinners.  They are a good deal for the money and are a good way to meet people.

Undergrad Major: biochemistry
Undergrad Minor: mathematics
Hobbies: hiking, tennis, singing, painting, photography, foreign languages,

Hiking: Blue Hills (only 20 minutes away by car, lots of trail and views from
above)
Swimming: Walden Pond (~20-30 minutes away by car, so much fun to swim across
it!)
Dancing: Cambridge Dance Complex (5 minutes away walking, all types of dance
classes)
Restaurants: Inman Sq. is a great location (East Coast Grill, Mocqueca, Montien, Bukowski's,...).  I also like the Tavern on the Square in Central; it's usually not half so crowded as the Miracle of Science.  My favorite Indian restaurant in Central is Shalimar.  In Harvard Sq., there are also a ton of good restaurants including Tamarind Bay (nicer Indian restaurant than the Shalimar) and Vegeterian Planet (really good, healthy, fresh food in an atmosphere that makes me feel like I'm at an Oberlin College co-op).  I also like walking across the river to get icecream at J.P. Licks or a hot dog at Spike's.

Groceries: Trader Joes offers a lot of fun foods for meals (parties, and snacks); my only complaint is that their produce is not always that great.  I tend to find slightly better produce at our local Shaws.

Fan Jin

(1) Fan is an MBA student at the MIT Sloan School.  Before coming to MIT, she worked as an analyst at Lehman Brothers.  Fan is originally from China and grew up in the UK, Canada and the US.  She is currently attempting to learn Spanish and would therefore encourage all Spanish-speaking Warehouse residents to talk to her in that language until she finally gets it.  Fan holds a BSE from Princeton University in Operations Research and Financial Engineering.

(2) Fan suggests that Warehouse residents enjoy the sunshine of Boston as much as possible in the Fall months by walking around and really exploring the city.  Some interesting activities/attractions are the DuckTour, the SoWa art district, the North End and the Fenway Tour. In the winter months, Fan suggests visiting the MFA (free with MIT ID), the Museum of Science, the Prudential Center and ice skating at the Frog Pond in Boston Common.
Here are some other suggestions:
Cheap wine:  Trader Joe's
Good Hot Chocolate: L.A. Burdick

Ordering Pizza:
1) Upper Crust - pesto pizza, 2) Crazy Dough

Eating out, and not paying much:
1) Regina's Pizzeria in the North End for a simple basil and cheese
2) Cambridge Common for burgers and beers
3) Pepper Sky for drunken noodles

Also, I recommend checking out the Thirsty Ear across the street.  It's great for staying in touch with your busy friends,
and you might find me bar tending there on Tuesdays or Fridays. (sorry for the shameless promotion)

Jenna Wiens

I was born and raised in the Great White North (aka Canada). I went to undergrad at Carleton University in
Ottawa where I received a B.Eng in Electrical Engineering. I'm currently studying towards a PhD in Bio-Electrical Engineering. Throughout undergrad I played varsity water polo and continue to enjoy staying active in the water in addition to running  outside along the Charles River. I also love to cook!

If you get tired of cooking for yourself (and you can't find free food anywhere on campus) there are a ton of great restaurants in Boston. If you get a chance take part in Boston's Restaurant week. During a week in March some of the best (and priciest) restaurants serve a fixed 3-course lunch menu or dinner menu for between $20-30. It's a fun way to try out some places you would normally never go. For the rest of the year my favourite food places are: Regina's Pizzeria in Boston, Pepper Sky's in Cambridge and Legal Seafood  (take your parents there they'll love it). Oh and Mike's Pastry's, you haven't lived until you try one of their cannolis (I love the florentine ricotta cannoli).
